John A. Yacawych | Republican-American

BURLINGTON – John A. Yacawych, 92, of Burlington, husband of Shirley (Fahie) Yacawych, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at home.

He was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Bristol, son of the late Alexander and Rose (Sinowa) Yacawych. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Before his retirement he was employed for 62 years as an honorary member of the Carpenters Union, Local 326, in Hartford. John was a life member of the Bristol Fish & Game Club and the VFW Post 296 in Winsted. John was a true patriot, a proud grandpa and an avid hunter and fisherman.

John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Yacawych of Burlington; his sons, John Thomas Yacawych and his wife Rose, of Barkhamsted, Thomas William Yacawych and his wife Holly, of Northfield, Vt., and Wayne Alex Yacawych of Terryville; his grandson Warren Yacawych, who is pursuing his Ph.D. in physiology at the University of Michigan; and his granddaughter Alexa Yacawych, who is attending the U.S. Naval Academy, pursuing a path to be commissioned as a U.S. Marine Corps officer.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Michael, Bill and Metro Yacawych; and sisters, Mary Himchak, Millie Mielniczak, and Julia Kloznick.

Family and friends may visit the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville, Friday, Oct. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol. scottfuneralhomeinc.com.
