Community Volunteer Alliance is back | The Hawk Eye – Burlington, Iowa

The Community Volunteer Alliance (CVA), a renowned organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating volunteerism in the greater Burlington community, is pleased to announce its revival under the leadership of the Burlington/West Burlington Area United Way.

Established in 2007, the CVA has been instrumental in recognizing exceptional volunteers and their significant contributions to various agencies and organizations in the Greater Burlington/West Burlington area.

The CVA, which had been inactive for the past three years due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, is back and running with the support of the Burlington/West Burlington Area United Way.

Heading this revival are esteemed community leaders Lois Blythe and Terra Waggener, who will serve as the Chair and Co-Chair, respectively.

Their vision and dedication will undoubtedly propel the CVA to new heights in promoting volunteerism and community engagement.

One of the flagship initiatives of the CVA is the annual Mayors’ Volunteer Award program.

This program recognizes exceptional volunteers who have played pivotal roles in fulfilling the mission and goals of various agencies and organizations during the last calendar year.

Additionally, the program honors volunteers who have dedicated 20 or more years of extraordinary service to an organization in the Greater Burlington/West Burlington area.

Nominations for the Mayors’ Volunteer Awards will open early in 2024, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Saturday, April 13th, kicking off National Volunteer Week.

This year, the CVA will introduce the Philanthropy Scholarship Award, a significant addition to its recognition initiatives.

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior, and further details will be made available later this fall.

The CVA is actively seeking community members who are passionate about volunteerism to join the alliance.

If you are interested in becoming a part of this impactful initiative, please contact Megan Brincks at [email protected] or call the United Way Office at (319) 752-7831.

The next CVA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 12:30 pm at the Burlington Public Library in Meeting Room B.

Community members, organizations, and volunteers are encouraged to attend and contribute their ideas and expertise.

The revival of the Community Volunteer Alliance signifies a renewed commitment to fostering volunteerism, community service, and collaboration in the Greater Burlington/West Burlington area.

Together, with the support of the Burlington/West Burlington Area United Way and dedicated community members, the CVA will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and organizations in our community.
