The 89-year-old victim reported numerous unauthorized ATM withdrawals after reviewing the bank statement.Throughout the investigation, deputies learned that the victim hired 41-year-old Mertice Eastwood to come to the victim’s residence for the purpose of car repairs. Working with the victim’s bank, detectives obtained camera footage from the ATM where the funds had been withdrawn.After reviewing the videos, detectives identified Eastwood as the person making the unauthorized ATM withdrawals.In total, Eastwood had withdrawn $6,580 from the victim’s account.On Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, Mr. Eastwood was located and arrested.Eastwood is being charged with one count of felony larceny of a financial card, one count of felony financial card fraud, and one count of felony identity theft.Watch: NOWCAST streaming newscastsHe is currently in custody at Alamance County Detention Center on a $40,000 secured bond.NAVIGATE: Home | Weather | Watch NOWCAST TV | Local News | National | News We Love |

On July 29, deputies began a fraud investigation, which was reported by a resident in northern Alamance County. The 89-year-old victim reported numerous unauthorized ATM withdrawals after reviewing the bank statement.
Throughout the investigation, deputies learned that the victim hired 41-year-old Mertice Eastwood to come to the victim’s residence for the purpose of car repairs.
Working with the victim’s bank, detectives obtained camera footage from the ATM where the funds had been withdrawn.
After reviewing the videos, detectives identified Eastwood as the person making the unauthorized ATM withdrawals.
In total, Eastwood had withdrawn $6,580 from the victim’s account.
On Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, Mr. Eastwood was located and arrested.
Eastwood is being charged with one count of felony larceny of a financial card, one count of felony financial card fraud, and one count of felony identity theft.
