Burlington declares public health crisis in response to substance use
City councilors have voted to adopt a resolution, declaring a public health crisis related to drug use in Burlington
City councilors in Burlington voted Tuesday night to pass a resolution, declaring a public health crisis in response to substance use issues. The resolution would add a standing item to every city council agenda for “public health and safety emergency” updates. The plan was first introduced in Burlington’s public safety committee after councilors heard from constituents about an increase in public drug use and overdose incidents. Councilors have also requested data and heat maps from first responders, for more information on overdose trends in the city.
